It has been over two years since Insta360 dropped its first webcam and the company seems to be gearing up to release a sequel with the Link 2. Ahead of any official announcements, the upcoming webcam seems to have been leaked in its entirety and if the images are to be believed, the successor will come with significant changes.
According to leaksters Arsène Lupin and Roland Quandt, the Link 2 will be equipped with an 8MP sensor that will retain its 4K resolution, with the ability for 60fps when the resolution is lowered to 1080p. While the original Link was known for its auto-framing feature, which was done through a gimbal that allowed it to pan, tilt, and zoom, it seems this will be scrapped with the new webcam.
As you can clearly see from the supposed renders, the Link 2 lacks the moving parts necessary for the advanced auto-framing function. Instead, the webcam will be “AI-powered”, although it is still unclear what that means and what new features will come along with it.
The good news, however, is that the webcam will allegedly be offered with a much lower price tag of US$199.99 (~RM886). For comparison, the original Link was released with a retail price of US$339.99 (~RM1,515). As of now, there are no details on its launch date.
