Grab has quietly brought over a new feature on its app for users to be able to seamlessly pay for all the rides of their family members and more with Family Account. First launched in Singapore last year, it allows you to share your payment methods and even keep track of their location and spending.
To set up a Family Account, you’ll find a button to do so under your name in the account tab of the Grab app. You will be able to add up to nine family members either by adding their contact info or sending them an invite link. Moreover, you can choose a single payment method to be shared by family members, whether it be a card or your wallet.
The group admin will be notified of any rides of members and are able to monitor the spending history of members. For peace of mind, admins are even able to track ongoing rides, view the chat between the member and driver, and chat with the driver. This works even with multiple rides at the same time.
Of course, all of this is only enabled if a member makes a booking using the Family profile, which also allows them to use the shared payment method. If a member does not want to be tracked by their group admin, they can book rides using the Personal profile, but this must be done manually as the Family profile is set as the default for those who have joined Family Account.
