AMD is officially launching its Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT graphics cards at Gamescom 2023 today. The two cards serve as the chipmaker’s offering to the mid-range and high-end gamer segment, as well as a direct competitor to Team Green’s own offering in the same category.

Starting with the internal specification of the Radeon RX 7800 XT, the card ships out with 16GB GDDR6 memory running at a speed of 19.5 Gbps, and a 256-bit memory bus. Additional specifications of the card include 60 Unified RDNA3 Cores, 60 RT Accelerators (2nd Gen), 120 AI Accelerators, 64MB Infinity Cache (2nd Gen), and a 263W TDP. For the AMD reference cards, the cooling solution comprises a dual-fan cooling solution, while power to the card comes in the form of dual 8-pin PCIe ports.

As for which card the Radeon RX 7800 XT is supposed to up against, AMD has made it somewhat obvious that the card rivals the non-Ti NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070. As for its clockspeeds, the card has game and boost clocks of 2124MHz and 2430MHz, respectively.

Moving on, there’s also the Radeon RX 7700 XT, a card that AMD made as an answer to NVIDIA’s own RTX 4060 Ti. Specs-wise, the card is obviously of a lower-tier than the 7800 XT – it comes with 12GB GDDR6 memory running at a speed of 18 Gbps, plus a smaller 192-bit memory bus. Other specifications include 54 Unified RDNA3 Compute Units, 54 2nd Gen RT Accelerators, 108 AI Accelerators, 48MB of 2nd Gen Infinity Cache, and a TGP of 245W. In terms of game and boost clocks, those numbers are set at 2171MHz and 2544MHz, respectively, and just like the 7800 XT, the card will require two 8-pin PCIe connectors to run.

As mentioned, both the Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT are designed for mid to high-end gaming, and while they can technically be used for 4K gaming, AMD has set the sweet spot for these cards to 1440p. In addition to the launch of its new cards, AMD also spoke briefly about FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) and its one-click-tunes-all feature, HYPR-RX. While the CPU and GPU maker didn’t provide an exact date for both enhancement tools, Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions at AMD, said on stage at Gamescom 2023 that they will be arriving in the fall and more specifically, in just a few more weeks.

As for how much these cards will cost, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT will retail from US$499 (~RM2,315) while the 7700 XT starts from US$449 (~RM2,083). Both cards will be available from 6 September onwards, the same day that the AMD PC-exclusive title, Starfield, goes live.
