As revealed by a Qualcomm executive by accident.

Back in January, Nothing founder Carl Pei announced that the Phone (2) will be a “more premium” device compared to the first. Then about a week ago, it was revealed that the phone will be packing a Snapdragon 8 series chipset. The vagueness was probably intentional at that point, but now, it looks like an executive from the chip making company has spoiled the surprise by accident.

91mobiles reports that Alex Katouzian, the SVP and GM of Mobile, Compute and XR business unit at Qualcomm, made the gaffe on LinkedIn. Katouzian made a congratulatory post commemorating the Nothing Phone (2) sporting the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1. Mention of the chip was subsequently deleted, but not before a screenshot was taken.

All in all, it’s not a complete surprise of a development, at least not for the Nothing Phone (2). This is, after all, the company that chose to go with the Snapdragon 778G Plus for its first phone, when the top-of-the-line chip at the time was the 8 Gen1. So with the next phone not sporting the latest and greatest chipset, it’s pretty on brand for the company, to say the least.

Based on this, the Nothing Phone (2) will indeed be a more premium device compared to its predecessor. Though it remains to be seen what will this do to its price when it eventually gets launched. But for what it’s worth, the phone may not be using the most up-to-date chipset in the market, but it will still qualify for the Snapdragon Satellite feature. The brand did get named specifically after all, and minus the upcoming one it only has one other phone at the moment.

With all that being said, the Nothing Phone (2) will probably not be getting iSIM support. That feature was announced as coming to the Snapdragon 8 Gen2, which the upcoming phone by the company won’t be getting.
