Big card, big power.

As we get closer to the announcement of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the rumour mill has continued to churn away about the GPU, despite the brand having remained constantly tightlipped about its existence. One of the more recent rumours involves a custom-cooled card from one of NVIDIA’s AiB partners and how it is powered up.

The brand in question is EVGA and the card under the spotlight is reportedly the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Kingpin, the company’s top-of-the-line series of GPUs. According to a post on the Korea-based forum, Quasar Zone, the card itself will require not one, but two 12-pin power connectors, in order to run properly within a system.

The connector requirement suggests that the EVGA’s beastly RTX 3090 Ti Kingpin is expected to pull, in theory at least, up to 1275W. In contrast, NVIDIA’s Founders Edition – that’s assuming NVIDIA even plans on releasing an FE edition of the card, but given its top-tier status, it seems likely – previous reports have said that the card will require 450W in order to run properly.

The rumours don’t end there either. The post also suggests that the RTX 3090 Ti Kingpin won’t use the traditional air-cooling solution. Instead, the card will allegedly use a Hydro Copper water block, with the size of the radiator still something of a mystery.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is expected to be announced during NVIDIA’s CES 2022 keynote, which is scheduled to take place on 5 January. All in all, the card will retain the same amount of graphics memory, which is 24GB GDDR6X, but will run at a faster 21Gbps and have 10752 CUDA cores.
