UPDATE 2 (5:15 PM): Serial leaker, WalkingCat has released the full trailer for Xbox Series S which provides additional information regarding the console. Just scroll further to know more.

UPDATE (4:00 PM): A few hours after these leaked materials made their rounds, Microsoft itself has now officially revealed the new Xbox Series S and has also confirmed its pricing. Scroll down for further details.

ORIGINAL STORY (11:25 AM):

After its controller was prematurely released into the market last month, the first product render of Microsoft Xbox Series S has made its way into the Internet. The source of the image comes from Brad Sams, who is a long time Microsoft-oriented journalist and editor at Thurrott.com.

Given the source, this means that the image has strong legitimacy attached to it. Aside from providing the world with the first glimpse of the device, Brad has also stated that the Xbox Series S has an estimated price tag of USD 299 which is around RM 1246.

From the image, it is hard to tell whether the console will still feature a disc drive or otherwise. However, a 4-second video posted by the well-known serial leaker WalkingCat provided an alternative look at the console which showed that the Xbox Series S does not feature the drive.

At the same time, another well-known name in the industry, Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners has also verified the legitimacy of the leaked materials shown above with the exception of the pricing. With that, the only thing left right now is for Microsoft to officially announce the Xbox Series S and that should take place very soon.

UPDATE (4:00 PM):

It took only a few hours after the leaked materials became headlines all over the world, before Microsoft itself relented and decided to make the news official via its social media channels:

👀 Let’s make it official!

At the same time, Microsoft has also confirmed the console’s USD 299 price point and the image is clear enough to show that the Xbox Series S is not equipped with a disc drive. However, other details regarding the console will only be revealed by the company at a later date.

UPDATE 2 (5:15 PM):

WalkingCat has just one-upped Microsoft once again by releasing the full trailer for Xbox Series S:

no point holding this back now I guess pic.twitter.com/SgOAjm3BuP

— WalkingCat (@_h0x0d_) September 8, 2020

As you can see from the video above, the trailer brought together plenty of additional details to the table. For example, the Xbox Series S is 60% smaller than Xbox Series X and can apparently deliver framerate of up to 120 fps at 1440p resolution.

The trailer also stated that the console can perform 4K upscaling for game titles as well as media playback at native 4K resolution. The Xbox Series S is also equipped with 512GB solid state drive.

Not to forget, the console also able to support several graphics technologies such as DirectX Ray Tracing, Variable Rate Shading, and Variable Refresh Rate. Last but not least, the Xbox Series S will be made available this November according to the trailer.
