With 135 years’ worth of history under its wings, Royal Selangor is known throughout the world for its high-quality pewterware. Hence, the Setapak-based company is not something that you would associate with tech but interesting enough, Royal Selangor has recently released a new product that revolves around smartphones.
Called Phonos, it is essentially a phone holder that is designed to passively amplify the sound output from a smartphone. By passive, we meant that the holder does not require any power input whatsoever to perform its job and just relies on its functional physical design.
As the story goes, Phonos was actually conceived during the recent Movement Control Order (MCO) period as the Royal Selangor’s design staff have to continue their operation from their own home. Based on the remarks from the company’s Head of Design, Richard De Lancey, seems like Phonos is made for those who utilise their phones for conference calls and looking for ways to mount it in a comfortable manner.
Despite its low-tech nature, Phonos collection still commands a premium price tag just like many of Royal Selangor products out there. Available immediately from Royal Selangor’s official website, the price for Phonos starts at RM 350 for the SM variant while the larger MD and LG models can be obtained for RM 450 and RM 550, respectively.
