Calling the final season of Game of Thrones polarising would be the understatement of the century. Some fans love it to pieces, others have gone a tad too far by creating petitions to “remake” season 8 and labelling showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss lousy writers who destroyed the legacy of George R.R. Martin. But I think most of us are in agreement that the final season is pretty damn good television, just not quite as excellent as previous seasons.
The 2019 Emmy nominations were announced in July and Game of Thrones received a staggering 32 nods. Not only is that a huge number, but it also breaks the all-time record of most Emmy nominations won by a TV show in a single year.
Earlier today, the winners of the 2019 Emmys were announced and Game of Thrones once again took home the biggest prize of the award show — Outstanding Drama Series. The show also received this award in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Apart from that, Peter Dinklage, once again bagged the Primetime Emmy for Best Supporting Actor (his fourth win) setting the record for the most Primetime Emmy awards for a supporting actor in a drama. The highly talented actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister in the hit series was nominated a whopping eight times for his role.
In a heartwarming speech, the actor said:
“I count myself so fortunate to be a member of a community that is nothing but all about tolerance and diversity. Because no other place could I be standing on a stage like this.”
