Samsung is supposedly preparing to launch a folding smartphone next year. Sources claim that the device, codenamed ‘Winner’, will be a 7-inch device with a flexible display; allowing it to fold in half.
The Wall Street Journal cites ‘people familiar with the matter’. Saying that the device will be able to fold along the long edge. It will have a camera on both sides, with a small display bar on the front.
Rumours of Samsung’s folding device are not new and pop up every few months. The company has filed for numerous patents for devices fitted with flexible displays over the last couple of years; despite the fact that it hasn’t actually demonstrated the technology in the real world.
We’re inclined to take the new with a grain of salt this time, seeing that this is not really anything new. The fact that it is coming from the WSJ does lend it some credibility. Although not enough for us to believe that there really is a device coming to market.
