Panasonic has just released its latest mirrorless camera, the Panasonic GX9. The body is a classic rangefinder design with many modern touches, which includes the elimination of the low-pass filter for sharper images and a new monochrome film mode.
In the compact body of the GX9, Panasonic managed to cram the latest technology. It has a 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds sensor with the low-pass filter removed to maximise sharpness. To compose photos, users can use the 2.7 million-dot (equiv.) EVF that tilts 90-degree upward or the 1.2 million-dot touchscreen that tilts up 80-degree and down by 45-degree.
Also built-in is Panasonic’s five-axis Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer) which combines O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer, two-axis) and B.I.S. (Body Image Stabilizer, five-axis) to reduce any blur from shaky hands. Like many mirrorless cameras, the GX9 can also record video in 4K at 30p or 24p using the MP4 file format. This is in addition to Full HD 1920 x 1080 60p film mode as well.
For stills, Panasonic added a new L.Monochrome D mode under the Styles menu for easy monochrome image shooting, complete with film grain simulation. Like any respectable modern camera, the Panasonic GX9 includes both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
Panasonic will start shipping the GX9 from March onwards with the sticker price of US$999 (about RM3,915), which includes the new 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens.
