A new service called Quick Ride Sdn Bhd has signed an agreement with Uber to provide vehicles for prospective drivers. The idea is to acquire and lease some 1000 Proton Saga and Persona cars to those who want to drive for the ride-sharing service in the Klang Valley.
Quick Ride itself is a joint venture between Cartrade Group and Koperasi Amanah Pelaburan Berhad; and has already signed a memorandum of understanding with Uber and Proton to begin offering its services.
Prospective drivers will have to pay a deposit of RM1,000 and clear a background check with both Uber and Quick Ride. From there, they will be allowed to lease a vehicle for a daily rate of RM45 (for a new Proton Saga) or RM55 (for a Proton Persona).
Vehicles leased from Quick Ride will also be outfitted with WiFi and a tablet for passengers to use.
Ultimately, Quick Ride is hoping to get as many as 10,000 cars on the road in two years. That’s no small number and relies heavily on the idea that people are flocking to drive for Uber. Which could be a problem as these drivers will still have to meet the minimum 30 hours a week of driving to remain on the ride-sharing service.
