Square Enix has announced Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for the PlayStation 4. This newest edition to the Dissidia series will introduce Final Fantasy VX lead character Noctis to the brawler series; and have more than 20 characters drawn from the entire FF franchise.
An entirely new story mode is also being introduced for Dissidia NT. There’s not telling what it is at the moment, and the announcement trailer doesn’t give any hints of what might be in store for players.
Earlier Dissidia games were all published for the PSP, and it was assumed that the series had been abandoned along with the handheld. Creative director Tetsuya Nomura had also declared the franchise completed, although he believed that any followup games would not be fighting games.
That does not appear to be the case the moment. Dissidia NT still retains the team based format that made the series a hit. It looks like the core mechanics of game are still there, but it’s difficult to tell if anything new has been added.
More information is set to be revealed at E3 this year.
