Not every streaming service has Chromecast integration; which makes streaming some shows to a TV somewhat unpleasant. To fix this, Google is testing an update that will allow the Chromecast to directly receive the stream. Ideally, this means smoother performance and less delay.
At the moment, full screen Chrome tabs are able to stream content to the Chromecast. Allowing the gizmo access to shows that usually wouldn’t be available. However, the catch here is that the option requires the laptop running the tab to do all the processing work before transmitting it again to the Chromecast.
Google’s experimental new feature skips this part and simply directs the stream directly to the Chromecast. Allowing it to perform as if the content provider had already integrated the feature.
Anyone can give the feature a try right now by visiting chrome://flags/#media-remoting if they have a Chromecast nearby. Google recommends heading to Vimeo and watching any random video there to see if it works.
Not all media streaming supports the Chromecast, and getting better support casting would greatly improve the value of the device.
