It looks like Spotify has finally decided to bring its “Behind the Lyrics” feature to Android devices. The feature, as its name suggests, lets you see stories behind the lyrics to selected songs. It was first introduced for iOS devices last year, and it’s finally coming to Android devices as well.
Every song has a story to be told, and Spotify wants to show you that story. “Behind the Lyrics” is made in collaboration with Genius. It lets you have an understanding of your favourite songs, from the inspiration behind each lyric, to what the artist was feeling at the time.
Sadly though, Behind the Lyrics is not available on every single track. You can access this feature on Spotify’s curated playlists Behind the Lyrics: Hip Hot and Today’s Top Hits. Tracks on these playlists will come with lyrical excerpts, fun facts, and stories straight from the artists themselves, explaining how they created their song. That’s not all, in conjunction with today’s launch, Spotify also announced that Behind the Lyrics is available on every track of Khalid’s new American Teen album.
“Genius’s Behind the Lyrics on Spotify is very helpful because it gives you insight on what the artist was thinking about when they created the record. It also lets you think about things you didn’t think of before. You listen to a record, and you interpret it your own way. But with this, you can see what the artist felt. ‘You know what? Maybe it doesn’t mean what I thought. Maybe it means this.’ But at the same time, music is universal. Music can mean anything you want.” – Khalid.
