Maxis NeXT M1 Smartphone Goes Official: Available From 3 March Onwards For RM 78 Per Month

So, the leak is real: Maxis is indeed working on its own 4G smartphone. To be available from 3 March onwards, the new device is officially called the NeXT M1.

At the moment, the telco has yet to fully reveal the specifications for its brand new smartphone. However, its official website stated that the NeXT M1 carries an octa-core processor, 5.5-inch HD display, and a 13-megapixels auto-focus rear camera.

From what we were able to tell from its website, NeXT M1 is apparently being offered only via what seems to be a new plan from Maxis called Postpaid Starter Plan. In fact, the FAQ stated that customers need to purchase the plan separately even if they are already an existing Maxis ONE subscriber.

Priced at RM 78 per month, the Postpaid Starter Plan not only provides the NeXT M1 smartphone customers but also 4GB data and 50 minutes worth of calls per month. Additionally, the phone is also accompanied by a 24-months warranty which includes 1-to-1 replacement throughout the warranty duration.

Of course, the 1-to-1 exchange can only be done as long as it is within the warranty’s terms and conditions that covers bloated battery, components defects, software problem, and display discoloration.

Under the telco’s new Postpaid Starter Plan, the NeXT M1 warranty policy also includes 6-months screen protection that covers from hairline scratch to full blown cracked display. There is also 12-months warranty for the phone’s bundled accessories such as charged, USB cable, and earphones.

As telcos in Malaysia hardly offer self-branded devices these days, this is quite a move by Maxis. Not to forget, Malaysian consumers are quite brand conscious as well although there must be something that the telco have seen in the market to justify this decision.
