Ever since its inception in August last year, the R9 Nano has been received rather positively by consumers and tech reviewers. Unsurprising really, since the R9 Nano sports a full Fiji XT GPU inside a small form factor graphics card, which can be suitable for any type of PC build. However, bearing such features meant that initially, the R9 Nano came with a hefty price tag. Interestingly, AMD has provided a solution to tackle the price barrier.
It’s not uncommon for companies to eventually reduce the price of their graphics cards but in the case of the R9 Nano, flagship GPU prices are rarely significantly reduced. At launch, the R9 Nano was priced at US$649 (about RM2,850) and now, AMD has decided to reduce the price to a somewhat wallet-friendly, US$499 (around RM2,200).
The price reduction means that currently, the R9 Nano has the same price as its full-sized counterpart, the R9 Fury. In addition to that, AMD’s decision to reduce the price of its small yet powerful graphics card means that it is now competitively priced against the GTX 980 as well as the GTX 980 Ti which are priced at RM2,500 and RM3,400 respectively.
Although the price cut is said to take place soon, it would take a longer time for the price reduction to be implemented in Malaysia. Whether or not retailers in Malaysia will follow suit remains to be seen. Meanwhile, why not check out our close-up with the R9 Nano here.
