Panasonic has already unveiled transparent displays called “Interactive Mirrors” at last year’s CES; which were meant to showcase a certain product behind the display. This year, the company has revealed a version of its transparent display that’s meant to be put at home.
Currently, Panasonic’s transparent display is only a prototype and is far from being a finished product. The prototype demo shows the glass/display on a shelf with some home decor behind it. What you don’t see is that there are micro LEDs planted inside the piece of wood below the glass. What happens is that these LEDs project the visuals to the glass panel.
However, the prototype does have its limitations. The display is maxed out at 1080p resolution and the glass is slightly tinted. However, Panasonic has mentioned that its engineers are aiming to make it fully transparent.
Other than that, Panasonic also showed off a music player interface on the transparent display prototype, which looks a lot like Apple’s Cover Flow.
If Panasonic’s transparent display does become a legitimate product, the possibilities are endless. The system could work with Android to show you your notifications, weather updates, and possibly play your favourite music, not to mention how cool it will be to show off to your friends.
