Google has begun distributing Android version 7.1.1 to all Nexus devices that support the OS. The newest Android version brings about several new features, some of which were previously exclusive on the Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones.
Google introduced new emojis that now include occupations for both male and female genders to promote gender equality. Other than that, Android 7.1.1 also support sending GIFs straight from the keyboard on apps that support the feature – Google Allo, Google Messenger, as well as Hangouts. The update also lets you long press on an app icon to launch actions right from your home screen, a feature that was a Pixel-exclusive.
These features were previously already made available for the Nexus 6P and 5X through the Android 7.1 Developer Preview. However, they are now made widely available to all supported Nexus devices with Android 7.1.1.
As for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, the Android 7.1.1 update also brings raise-to-wake as well as double-tap-to-wake functionality. Below is a list of devices that support Android 7.1.1 Nougat:
- Pixel XL
- Pixel
- Nexus 6P
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 6
- Pixel C
- Nexus Player
- Nexus 9
- Nexus 9 LTE
Those who are interested in getting the Android 7.1.1 update should keep a lookout in your device’s “Firmware Update” section. For those who can’t wait and are comfortable with flashing a factory image on your device, you can download them here.
