At the ongoing 2015 UMNO General Assembly, attendees can take a look at an unusual, if not interesting, new product for sale: an UMNO-branded smartphone, the first ever smartphone released by the political party.
The UMNO-branded smartphone was developed from a partnership between Chili Mobile Sdn Bhd, MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority) and MOSTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation). As a smartphone made for the political party, the UMNO smartphone sports the party’s logo on the lockscreen, home screen and on the removable back cover. Design-wise, it appears to be a standard mid-range device, with a plastic frame and rear cover that’s reminiscent of some 2014 flagship smartphones.
The UMNO phone runs on an unspecified quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, and sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, 16GB internal memory and a 2,500mAh battery. Besides dual-SIM support, the device also runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Camera-wise, the smartphone has a 5MP front-facing camera and a 13MP rear camera.
The UMNO smartphone will retail at a promotional price of RM888, and is available for purchase at the ongoing assembly. Unfortunately, aside from a few images that were found on the Barisan Nasional Malaysia Facebook Page, there aren’t a lot of information regarding the smartphone especially regarding availability.
