Xiaomi Mi 4c Official Pink

As expected, Xiaomi has finally taken the wraps off the Xiaomi Mi 4c, a high-end Android smartphone from the Chinese company. Classified as an “upgraded version of Mi 4i”, it features a Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor, a generous 3080mAh battery and even a USB Type C port, for a very affordable price tag starting from just 1,299 yuan (about RM874).

First up, the Xiaomi Mi 4c features a 5” Sharp/AOU/LG custom display, with a full HD resolution. There is also Sunlight Display on board that dynamically enhances the screen to look the same in harsh lighting, as well as a night reading mode that is easy on the eyes while you’re reading. The display also features variable refresh rates, allowing it to be 10% more efficient. On the inside, it is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, an improvement from the Snapdragon 615 processor found on the Mi 4i.

Xiaomi also introduced a brand new feature on the Mi 4c called Edge Tap that lets you control the phone simply by touching the edge – give it a tap to capture an image, or double tap to go back to the previous page. Xiaomi did not specify how exactly this works, but from the picture given, it looks like to use Edge Tap, all you need to is press on the area beneath the power button.

Also as expected, there is a USB Type-C connector on board. Sadly though, even though OnePlus calls it a “future-proof” feature, many has been finding USB Type-C port annoying because of lack of support, which is why Xiaomi also introduced USB Type-C adapter – which lets you plug any microUSB cable into the Mi 4c – that costs only 5 yuan (less than RM4!!!).

Camera wise, Xiaomi has packed a 13MP camera at the back (Sony IMX258/Samsung S5K2M2 ISOCELL) with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) technology, and two-tone flash. The front camera on the other hand has a 5MP sensor with wide-angle lens, perfect for the “wefie” lovers. Other specs include a large 3080mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 technology, infrared port, 4G dual SIM, and ships with MIUI 6, but can be upgraded to MIUI 7 that’s “coming in a few weeks”.

Available in cool white, grey, pink, yellow and blue, the Xiaomi Mi 4c also comes with two different variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage for 1,299 yuan (RM874), or 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage for 1,499 yuan (RM1,008).
