This is something for you networking folks out there: ASUS is apparently planning to release a limited edition version of its famed RT-AC87U wireless router into Malaysian market. By limited, we mean only 50 out of 1,000 units of the router will be made available in our market.
In terms of specifications and performance, the Limited Edition variant is no different from a standard RT-AC87U. Users are still able to tap into the router’s dual-band capability with support for 802.11ac, alongside its 4×4 MU-MIMO antenna, two dual-core processors, four RJ45 Gigabit ports for LAN, and another RJ45 Gigabit port just for WAN.
The router which apparently able to deliver up to 600 Mbps on 2.4 GHz band and 1,734 Mbps on 5 GHz band also carries a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 port. So, what actually made the Limited Edition different though is that the Limited Edition version is draped in bright red and individually numbered as shown above.
ASUS didn’t reveal the pricing in Malaysia to us though although when you consider the current price tag of RM 1,309 (inclusive of GST) for a standard version of RT-AC87U, don’t expect the Limited Edition to be priced for less than that. No mention of its actual release date as well but expect ASUS Malaysia to make an official announcement regarding the availability of RT-AC87U Red Limited Edition wireless router in our market very soon.
