Samsung maybe adding wireless charging to its next smartwatch. Sources report that the device, codenamed Orbis, will feature wireless charging on top of the standard clip-on mechanism found on current Samsung smartwatches.
The Korean manufacturer may not have many devices with wireless charging integration but the Orbis will be one of the few devices to feature it. This would give the Orbis’ debut a competitive edge over the likes of the Moto 360, the LG G Watch R and future smartwatches.
Samsung’s array of devices that are currently capable of wireless charging includes the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4. However, these devices require an additional casing to allow wireless charging, one that has not been widely available in this country. These implement the Qi wireless charging standard, the most popular standard at the moment, and hopefully the Orbis will follow suit.
It is still a mystery how the Orbis will look like or what it will feature when it is completed. It has been previously reported that the smartwatch will sport a rotating bezel and digital crown home button, although Samsung itself has been very quiet about the device.
