The Nexus 6 has showed up in SIRIM’s database, indicating that a Malaysian launch is very likely for the new Nexus device. Being the first Nexus smartphone with a flagship-level asking price, it marks Google’s new pricing strategy.
Made by Motorola, the Nexus 6 is also the first Nexus smartphone to boast a considerable 5.96-inch display, which is a stark difference from the Nexus 5’s display size of only 4.95-inch, its predecessor. Despite this rather big (literally) change, it is still well-received by consumers.
Hardware wise, the Nexus 6 has a 5.96-inch 2560 x 1440 AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 2.7GHz quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB or 64GB of non-expandable storage, and of course, Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, which is probably its main selling point.
In the camera department, the Nexus 6 boasts a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 2MP front-facing camera. Rounding up the specifications are LTE connectivity, a Turbo Charger feature that allows the Nexus 6 to get up to six hours of use from only 15 minutes of charging, and a 3220mAh battery.
It will be interesting to see how much the Nexus 6 will be priced here, considering that the 32GB and 64GB models retail at US$649 (approximately RM 2,355) and US$699 (about RM 2,535) respectively on the Google Play Store. Expect the smartphone to be launched in Malaysia very, very soon.
