I think it’s safe to conclude that HTC’s UltraPixel camera isn’t doing very well. In fact, I think it’s safe to say it’s doing pretty poorly on the rear camera of the HTC One (M7) and One (M8), which is why the Taiwanese company is now putting its own camera technology on the front camera of the brand new HTC Desire 826.
Just four months after announcing the HTC Desire 820 smartphone, HTC now has an update to the Desire 800 series of mid-range Android smartphone and this time round, its selling point is the 4MP UltraPixel front camera. This means that with UltraPixel sensor, you can take faster and brighter selfies even in low-light environment.
Beyond that, the Desire 826 looks like your typical HTC Desire smartphone that features BoomSound front-facing speakers. It has a 5.5” Full HD display and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Other specs include 13MP rear camera, microSD slot, dual Nano SIM card slots (for selected regions only), LTE-enabled, 2,300mAh battery, and is the first Desire smartphone to run on Android Lollipop.
Finally, it looks like HTC is taking the Sony approach to release two phones a year, fortunately, not with an expensive flagship smartphone. According to Engadget, the CFO, Chia-Lin Chang, said that the Desire 8 series will have two new models each year, and each region will get a say on the product cycles of existing phones. Will HTC’s UltraPixel camera live on in the front camera segments? Only time will tell.
The HTC Desire 826 is expected to be released around the world by the end of this month, together with the company’s Dot View case.
