The iPad will soon be home to the Pokemon Trading Card Game. It’s not quite what fans of the series might be hoping for, but at least it is still getting Pokemon on the platform. The lone picture of the game comes from a post on Twitter, although it has been confirmed by an official from the Pokemon Company that the rumour is indeed true.
This version appears to be a port of the existing Pokemon Trading Card Game Online, which has been on the PC and Mac for at least a couple of years. If it is, this could provide the first real competition for Hearthstone; as the PC version of the game also follows a free to play formula that is similar to Blizzard’s immensely successful online card game. Both allow players to earn in-game currency by battling other players. This currency can then be used for buying random packs and, in the case of Pokemon, theme decks.
Kotaku is reporting that the game is set for a 2014 launch, which means that it should be appearing soon. Likely around the same time as Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire due out later this year for the Nintendo 3DS.
