Lenovo’s latest Y50 gaming laptop sure is one handsome device, but it also may have inadvertently announce NVIDIA’s GeForce 800 series of mobile GPUs before the GPU makers officially announced it.
In its teaser product page on its US website, Lenovo states that the new Y50 – which will be available in the US in May – will pack an NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M GPU. While NVIDIA has not officially announced the GeForce 800 series for 2014 (yet), other laptop makers such as Clevo have mentioned similar GPUs in their 2014 laptop roadmap. The Y50 isn’t the only Lenovo laptop to feature an unannounced NVIDIA GPU, too: the mid-range Z40 and Z50 laptops can be configured to pack a GeForce GT840M GPU.
The new GeForce 800 series will see the introduction of a new GPU architecture, codenamed Maxwell. It is the successor to the Kepler GPU architecture, and the first products bearing the new GPUs are expected to arrive in April 2014.
