2013 was an interesting one for consumer technology. Some would call it a groundbreaking year, what with the emergence of wearable technology such as the Google Glass and smartwatches such as the Samsung Galaxy Gear. On the other hand, there are others who would consider 2013 to be a disappointing one, especially after a promising start. Regardless of how you think 2013 was, there are naturally moments that blew our minds…as well as the disappointing lows in consumer technology.
As such, we thought it’d be great to generate a list of “Best Of 2013”, based on categories such as smartphones, disappointments and of course, the top stories of the year. Here’s a recap of the Lowyat.NET editorial team’s Best of 2013!
Article continues after the jump.
We kicked off our list with a recap of the most-read stories on Lowyat.NET. Kicking off with January’s Nokia N9 feature, and moving on to the reaction to Apple’s new iPhone 5c, our esteemed readers proved to be very vocal with their opinions. It continued with our rhetorical question regarding Malaysia’s continued love for the PC Fair: is it even worth going anymore? All these and more in our extensive list of features, a prominent feature in 2013, and one that will naturally expand into 2014.
Let’s also not forget our Queen of Local Telcos, Huei, and her many, many price comparisons – tabulating the various postpaid plans for various devices so you don’t have to. Naturally, the most-read ones were on the most popular smartphones of 2013: the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5s and 5c.
Speaking of which, we then had a tough time with the next item in out Best of 2013 list: what was the best smartphone of 2013? Surprisingly, both the Galaxy S4 and the two new iPhones weren’t in any of our top choices…leaving plenty of space for some surprises, such as the Moto G and even Nokia’s Asha range. Check our our top picks for Best Smartphone of 2013 for more.
Naturally, with every high there has to be some lows throughout the year. We had to jog our memory for this one, as it is really easy to forget the flops of the year, such as the much-maligned iPhone 5c, the quickly-forgotten Facebook Home, and this rather questionable ad from Samsung. Check out our full list of Flops of 2013 for more.
