Motorola X Rumor Roundup – Another Geek’s Wishlist?

Only less than 2 months to go before the next big event, Google I/O 2013, and it looks like the rumor is going strong for the mysterious Motorola X device. Expected to make its debut at the show, the Motorola X is said to pack some pretty amazing stuffs under its hood that sounds too good to be true but hey, it doesn’t hurt to be hopeful, does it?

First up, initial rumors shared by PhoneArena suggests that the Motorola X will have a 4.8” display made out of sapphire glass, which is three times harder to crack than Gorilla Glass. The corners will sport rubber bumpers and the back will be made of carbon fibre like many of the older Motorola smartphones we’ve seen before. To be powered by a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with a humongous 4,000mAh battery on board. Sounds too good to be true? Of course it does.

PhoneArena then verified the information with their source who then said that while the device is indeed on track to ship by its original ship date (soon after Google I/O), it probably will not be as powerful as it seems. The battery is similar to the Maxx, which is 3,300mAh, and it will not pack any futuristic materials like flexible displays – sapphire glass maybe, but definitely not flexible display. The choice of processor is also questionable.

GSMArena then reported that according to their anonymous tipster, the X could be a IP57 certified (water resistant up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes) and Gorilla Glass 3 screen, with no microSD slot on board.

Of course, do take all these rumors and leaks with a pinch of salt. It’s still pretty early at the moment, all the above-mentioned specifications sounds like a geek’s wish list especially the battery and processor. It wouldn’t make sense for Google/Motorola to note use a Full HD display to compete with current high-end smartphones like the Galaxy S IV, HTC One, Xperia Z and such.

Less than 2 more months to go, we’re definitely excited for the upcoming announcements and we will keep you updated as and when we receive more information.

So in summary, here are the possible specs of the Motorola X:

  • 4.8” Display made of Sapphire Glass/ Gorilla Glass 3
  • 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor
  • Android 4.2
  • 4,000mAh 3,300mAh Battery
  • NO microSD slot on board
  • Water Resistant IP57 certified
