Lenovo Announces Company’s First Chromebook

The small family of Chromebooks just got one new addition: Lenovo has just announced the ThinkPad X131e Chromebook, which is aimed primarily for students. Featuring an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 screen and powered by an Intel processor, this will be the most expensive Chromebook in the family after Samsung’s $249 Chromebook, and Acer’s $199 C7 Chromebook.

Both Lenovo and Google are touting the rugged ThinkPad design as perfectly suited for the classroom, especially at a time when Google’s suite of apps are being increasingly adopted for education in the US. The ThinkPad X131e Chromebook will be available at a rather steep $429 from February 26 for education customers. There’s also a one-time “support fee” of $30, making this quite an expensive option for Chromebooks, though we’re fairly certain that the legendary ThinkPad durability has something to do with it.
