Huawei’s CES 2013 showing is full of firsts for the company: its first Windows Phone 8 smartphone, its first (and the world’s largest) phablet, and now its first 5-inch Full HD smartphone. Called the Ascend G2, Huawei’s billing it as “the most powerful smartphone” due to its impressive high-end specs. Sporting a 5-inch Full HD IPS display and Huawei’s in-house K3V2 1.5GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM, the Ascend D2 certainly fits in well with the rest of the competition. There’s also a 13MP backside illuminated rear camera as well as a 1.9MP front-facing camera.
Inside the aluminium and metal chassis is a 3000mAh battery, which is paired with Huawei’s proprietary Quick Power Control (QPC) and Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) technologies that together allow for up to six days of standby time on WCDMA. In addition, the Ascend D2 also features Corning’s Gorilla Glass protection, as well as dust and water resistance – passing the IPX 5/4 rating.
Huawei’s 170g and 9.9mm Ascend D2 will be available in pure white and crystal blue, and will hit Chinese markets this month. Also, the company will be releasing a 4.7-inch screen edition, but there’s no word on its availability just yet.
