Earlier this month, performance metrics of AMD’s alleged “Gorgon Halo” Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 APU made an appearance on Geekbench 7 via an HP Zbook Ultra G3a, a 16-inch laptop. The repository also gave us an insight about its specs, but for obvious reasons, no details about pricing, at least until recently.
Minisforum, the Chinese mini PC maker, recently opened up preorders for its MS-S1 Max-P495 mini PC, which stands as one of the first machines to ship out with the Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 APU, at a staggering price of US$7,399 (~RM30,176). Mind you, that price is after a 20% preorder discount, putting its original price at US$9,249 (~RM37,722).
Pricey But Loaded
At that price, Minisforum is offering only one configuration of this Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 system. In addition to the Gorgon Halo APU, customers will also get 192GB of LPDDR5X Unified Memory and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The APU itself offers 16-cores, 32-threads, with a base and boost clock of 3.1GHz and 5.2GHz, respectively. The processor has a maximum TDP of 120W in Performance Mode, 95W in Balanced Mode, and 60W in Quiet Mode.
The APU also comes with a Radeon 8065S iGPU, but let’s be real here: this isn’t why anyone would purchase this mini PC. As an Agentic AI module, the MS-S1 Max-P495 offers up to 131 TOPS of overall performance, with 55 TOPS coming from the NPU alone.
Remaining specifications of Minisforum’s Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 mini PC include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, two 10GbE LAN ports, two USB4 ports and an additional two USB4 V2 ports; one HDMI port, and a PCIe 16x slot inside it.
Minisforum is expected to ship out the first orders of its mini PC by mid-October this year, and only in the US. At the time of writing, there is no word on local availability or pricing, although it is unlikely that we’ll be seeing it in our market anytime soon.
