Disney+ has announced that it will introduce a new app in Malaysia on 7 October 2026, bringing the streaming service’s movies and shows to a new viewing experience. Existing subscribers will be able to access the new app at no additional cost, according to the company’s official announcement.
For now, subscribers do not need to download anything. Disney+ says it will remind users when action is required, while those with an existing subscription can log in to the new experience using the same email address or phone number they currently use.

Existing Subscribers Will Need To Set Up Their Profiles Again
While subscribers will retain access to the movies and shows available on Disney+, their existing profiles, Watchlists and viewing history will not be transferred to the new app. Users will instead need to set up their primary profile when they first log in to the new experience.
Disney+ also notes that subscribers who have not provided an email address in the current app will be asked to do so during their first login. The company says the availability date and plan types may vary for users whose subscriptions are billed through third-party providers.

Basic Subscribers Will Move To The Standard Plan
The plan available to users on the new Disney+ app will depend on their existing subscription. Those with a Disney+ Premium subscription will retain the features of the Premium plan, while Basic subscribers will receive access to the new Disney+ Standard plan at no additional cost.
The Standard plan includes downloads, video quality of up to 1080p and support for up to two simultaneous streams. Disney+ also says that subscribers’ billing periods will remain unchanged, regardless of their plan, and they can change their subscription at any time.

Disney+ In Malaysia
For those who are unfamiliar, Disney+ is available in Malaysia through its official app and website, with direct subscriptions offered on monthly or annual plans. These are divided into Basic and Premium tiers, with prices starting from RM29.90 per month.
The service can also be subscribed to through local partners, including Astro, CelcomDigi and Unifi TV. Astro offers Disney+ through selected add-ons and bundles starting from RM21.90 per month, while Unifi TV’s Disney+ options start from RM16 per month. CelcomDigi, meanwhile, offers access through its StreamMORE add-ons starting from RM22.90 per month.

Disney+ originally launched in Malaysia as Disney+ Hotstar in 2021. However, the service was renamed simply Disney+ on 9 October 2025 as part of the entertainment giant’s branding changes, with the Star hub also renamed the Hulu hub.
Despite the rebranding, the service continued operating on the same regional infrastructure, remaining available in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. Disney also said at the time that the name change would not affect subscription prices.
