HONOR is expected to launch its flagship Magic9 series in China later this month. Ahead of the event, the company has already teased the series’ top-end model, the Magic9 Pro Max, giving us a first look at its redesigned rear panel. Now, with the series still weeks away from its official unveiling, the phone has made another appearance, this time in a leaked hands-on video.
The video, which was also posted on Weibo, gives us a closer look at the device’s exterior, including its new “Moss Green” colourway. At first glance, the Magic9 Pro Max bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the recently released iPhone 18 Pro Max, particularly with its wide camera plateau spanning the upper portion of the rear panel. The leaked footage also appears to show a distinct section on the back with a clear outline, seemingly mimicking the look of the Ceramic Shield panel found on an iPhone. Unfortunately, we do not know if this portion of the HONOR phone is actually made of ceramic.
One of the key design differences between the Magic9 Pro Max and the iPhone is their camera layout. As teased previously, the HONOR phone comes with a large circular camera ring sitting on the rear camera plateau. Upon closer inspection, we can only make out one of the cameras in the aforementioned module, which is presumably the 200MP primary sensor. According to previous reports, this is a 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.57 aperture and optical image stabilisation, and has been co-developed with ARRI.
There is also a second 200MP camera on the device, although this one reportedly uses a smaller 1/1.4-inch sensor. It is worth noting that a third lens appears to share the same space within the camera module, but details about this particular camera remain unknown at the time of writing.
Flipping the device over, we can see that it still has a wide pill-shaped cutout for the selfie camera and 3D depth sensor. While we do not know the specifications of the selfie camera either, HONOR claims that it will feature a square sensor. If you didn’t know, this would allow the phone to capture both vertical and horizontal images and video without having to physically rotate the device.
Beyond that, the video reveals that the Magic9 Pro Max has a 1mm bezel surrounding the display, along with symmetrical speaker grilles on the top and bottom edges of the phone. Meanwhile, the right side of the device houses the latest version of HONOR’s AI button.
Unfortunately, the video did not reveal any further specifications of the device. As such, we will have to wait for more leaks or the official launch to learn more about the Magic9 Pro Max. As always, since the video and the details shown in it have yet to be confirmed by HONOR, it is best to take this information with a grain of salt.
