New alleged information about Intel Razor Lake has emerged via serial leakster Jaykihn. According to them, the Razor Lake-AX APU will use Nova Lake-S CPU cores, but they will be locked and not overclockable.
When questioned whether Razor Lake would use the newer Griffin Cove and Golden Eagle cores or Nova Lake’s Coyote Cove and Arctic Wolf cores, Jaykihn simply responded with “CYC ARW”, which is a reference to the latter combination.
While it is still unconfirmed, the news isn’t exactly surprising. Previous reports have linked the future CPU architecture to a BGA4326 package, making it a rather large package. Further, it is rumoured that the processor lineup would reintroduce on-package memory, while also being the first dekstop-tier CPU to use the configuration.
We say a return or reintroduction because the last time Intel used on-package memory wasn’t that long ago: the Lunar Lake architecture that launched back in 2024 was the first time the blue chipmaker introduced the technology, along with its Foveros packaging technology. It was an engineering feat in and of itself, allowing for faster communication between the memory and processor, but limiting in that you couldn’t expand its capacity on a whim.
That last part was the reason Intel reverted back to a separate CPU and memory design, but on the plus side, its Arc graphics division have shown exponential improvements generation-on-generation. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at Panther Lake and the Arc G3 Extreme APU.
But again, these are all just half-truths and whispers at this point, and as it stands, Intel has not officially announced nor mentioned anything surrounding Razor Lake. In other words, it’s best to take this story with a large grain of everybody’s blood pressure-inducing flavouring agent.
