Lenovo has quietly pulled the N3CN42WW BIOS update for the Legion Go from its support page. If you were to go to the page now, you’ll see that the latest BIOS update is listed as N3CN40WW, which was released back in January of this year, with the problematic BIOS no longer on offer.
Lenovo’s actions arose after several users began complaining about their Legion Go handhelds getting immediately bricked after downloading and installing the N3CN42WW BIOS update. The result is the same: the handheld shows a black screen, while the power button, controller LEDs, and the internals all show signs of working.
The point that adds insult to injury for some Legion Go owners was when they sent their handheld to Lenovo’s service centres, only to find out that the warranty on said handhelds had already expired, and they were forced to pay a service fee in excess of RM1,000. Another user, who actually had some technical knowledge in dealing with the issue, managed to reflash their affected Legion Go to an earlier BIOS, but again, not everyone has the expertise to pull this off.
We understand the frustration: at the end of the day, this was a problem brought about by the brand’s software quality control, or lack thereof. This removal of the N3CN42WW BIOS update is a sign that the brand is taking action, but at the time of writing, there is still no public explanation for its removal, nor is there an apology. It also doesn’t help that the company doesn’t seem to have a plan to help or compensate the affected users out of its own pocket.
