Maybank has announced that users will be required to update the MAE app to version 0.9.45 by 11 April 2026. According to the bank, failure to install the latest update by the stipulated deadline will result in users being unable to access the app, effectively locking them out until the update is completed.
The official notice does not mention why the update is necessary or why users will be locked out of the app until it is installed. That said, it is likely that the move is intended to bolster user-side security and mitigate the risk of potential malicious transactions, although this remains purely speculative on our part.

This isn’t the first time Maybank has implemented such a move. Back in November last year, the bank announced that it would restrict access to its online banking platforms on devices and web browsers running outdated or unsupported software. However, that measure was more related to operating systems rather than app versions.
It’s also worth noting that the app is older than some might expect. As a quick refresher, it turned five years old last October. Additionally, based on an earlier clarification, it won’t be going away anytime soon.
If you have already updated to the latest app version, there is nothing to worry about, and you can continue using it as usual. However, if you would like to verify that you are on the correct version, simply scroll down to the “About” section under “Settings” to view your current MAE app version.
