Qualcomm is reportedly set to launch its Snapdragon 8 Gen5 SoC later this month and more precisely, on 26 November. Yes, that’s not a typo and as such, it should not be confused with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 that the brand launched back in September at its annual Qualcomm Summit.
According to multiple reports, the 8 Gen5 will first make its debut in China, before eventually trickling down to other countries. Specs-wise, the chipset is a near carbon copy of its more powerful sibling, the 8 Elite Gen5, with a 2+6 CPU core layout. The dual P-Cores will have a clock speed of 3.8GHz, while the remaining six E-Cores will run at 3.36GHz.
The GPU of the 8 Gen5 is also the same as the Elite variant, which an Adreno 840, but likely running at a lower frequency than its more powerful sibling.
Again, there’s not a whole lot of information regarding the non-Elite 8 Gen5 but it is being reported that some of the first devices to be powered by the chipset include the OnePlus Ace 6T, the vivo S50, and vivo X Fold 6. The latter is interesting, simply due to how the smartphone brand seemingly missed the boat with the X Fold 5, which was rocking an 8 Gen3 instead of the more powerful 8 Elite chipsets used by virtually all of its rivals.
