Guerrilla Games (Guerrilla) announced the latest title in its Horizon IP, Horizon Steel Frontiers. Unlike the previous instalments, the game is a cross-platform Massive Multiplayer Online RPG (MMORPG).
The studio collaborated with NCSoft, the South Korean developer and studio behind two other MMORPGs, Lineage and Guild Wars. “We’ve loved collaborating with NCSOFT and are beyond excited to be able to hunt machines together in the world of Horizon – at Guerrilla, we’re still busily working on more ways for you to do just that. More on that to come.”
The official trailer of Steel Frontiers offers a fair amount of insight as to what we can expect from the game when it officially launches. First, players will take place in a new area called the Deadlands, which Guerrilla says is inspired by the US state of Arizona and New Mexico. Players will be made to team up with other players, either to hunt machine beasts or compete with rival tribes.
Speaking of tribes, players will be able to create characters from the tribes of Nora, Tenakth, Utaru, or the Oseram. and customise their appearance to a varying degree. As this is technically a Korean-based MMORPG, you can actually see alot of the Asian features present, particularly for the female players.

Exploration is obviously going to be a major part of Steel Frontiers, with the announcement video showing off the interior of new forges and a handful of players working together to bring down the beasts within them. Naturally, there are different cities, camps, and outposts that the
Combat is another aspect that’s certainly looks a little different; Guerrilla and NCSoft’s video shows initially shows off a character using what looks to be a massive greatsword as their main weapon, giving us some really strong Monster Hunter vibes, and rightly so. The bow and arrow combat styles from the original Horizon titles are present as well, as well as aerial traversal skills that were introduced in Forbidden West, but no indication what other kind of weapons.
As mentioned, the Horizon Steel Frontiers is expected to release for both mobile and PC, with the game being cross-platform. However, neither Guerrilla nor NCSoft provided an official launch date for it.
