Back in May, Microsoft announced the general availability of the Malaysia West cloud region in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area. Now, in another entry into the company’s AI Tour in the country for the year, it has announced another upcoming cloud region in Johor Bahru. And it’s called Southeast Asia 3.
As part of the announcement, the company says that “when this next-generation cloud region comes online, it will deliver Microsoft’s most comprehensive and strategic cloud services, designed to support advanced workloads and evolving customer needs from across the region”. This new cloud region is also described as “laying the foundation for scalable AI adoption”.

Microsoft also names a number of companies that have already integrated AI agents into their work processes. These include Affin Group, Petronas and RHB Bank. Many other organisations are noted to be “still in the early stages of this journey”, but no specifics were shared on this front.
Laurence Si, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia, says that “the upcoming Southeast Asia 3 cloud region reinforces Microsoft’s continued commitment to deliver secure, resilient and scalable cloud services that accelerated innovation and strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional digital leader”. He adds that the company “is committed to empowering the nation’s workforce with the skills needed to thrive in the AI economy”.
