MOE To Allocate Additional RM5 Million For CCTV Cameras At Select Schools

The Ministry of Education (MOE) is allocating an additional RM5 million for the installation of CCTV cameras in select schools nationwide, as an immediate part measure to enhance the safety of educational premises. While not mentioned explicitly, the move is likely a response to the school stabbing incident that took place on 14 October.

The additional RM5 million will complement the original RM3 million that was announced earlier. The MOE also released a statement, saying that this initiative is part of its comprehensive action plan to strengthen safety and address student disciplinary issues across all educational institutions under its purview.

The MOE says it will also deploy 10,096 teachers, a number that includes more than 500 Guidance and Counselling Teachers, to schools around the country starting in November 2025, in order to help address the mental health of students. Fully residential schools will be appointed 600 full-time Hostel Warden Assistants, chosen from among MySTEP personnel.

“MOE calls on all parties, including parents, the community and relevant agencies, to continue working together to create a safe, healthy, and disciplined learning ecosystem at every educational institution.”
