Last week, Yes announced that it is rolling out 5G Advanced commercially, starting with the Klang Valley. Following the official launch, the telco invited members of the media – Lowyat.NET included – to showcase the technology, particularly in congested locations. Driving throughout the middle of Kuala Lumpur, we tested the new network using Ookla’s Speedtest app. We were joined by YTL Communications CEO Wing K Lee.
Our first stop was Menara KH, where we recorded a download speed of 213Mbps, an upload speed of 52.5Mbps, as well as 20ms ping. For comparison purposes, the same speed test was conducted using a separate device using a different network.

Next, we headed to Menara TA. Here, download speed registered at 106Mbps, with an upload speed of 55.5Mbps, and 24ms ping. The final stop was near KLCC, where we registered a download speed of 100Mbps, an upload speed of 41.1Mbps, and 21ms ping.
On the return trip, the telco also hosted a Teams meeting to demonstrate the network’s performance. The video call remained stable throughout the journey as Wing detailed more information on the 5G Advanced network.
He revealed that the telco is on track to finishing the rollout in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor by the end of this month. In the following month, Yes will focus on coverage in the north and south. Finally, the network will be rolled out in East Malaysia in December.
Additionally, the CEO shared the company’s expectations for 5G Advanced, highlighting its application in the industries such as in manufacturing, healthcare, as well as robotics. Naturally, the telco also envisions the technology as a foundation for integrating artificial intelligence in these areas.
