If you’ve kept up with the iPhone in the last five years, you know that Apple makes a big deal about the frame of its flagship phones. From aluminium to titanium, the tech giant has swapped around frame materials for one reason or another.
With that in mind, recent reports indicate that the foldable iPhone will feature a new frame material. The rumoured device is said to be released sometime next year alongside the iPhone 18.

According to analyst Jeff Pu, the upcoming iPhone Fold will use a hybrid mix of titanium and aluminium in its frame. 9to5Mac also reported on the subject, although their sources say that the main casing of the foldable will be made entirely of titanium, while the hinge system will be a combination of titanium and stainless steel. To date, the only Apple device that is made of titanium is the iPhone Air.
In terms of design, the analyst did not share any details on how the phone will look. It is worth mentioning that a previous report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg claims that the foldable resembles “two titanium iPhone Airs stuck side-by-side”.

It is worth noting that the alleged foldable will reintroduce Touch ID. For the uninitiated, this is still the preferred method of authentication with almost all non-Apple products, and was the de facto security feature on iPhones until Face ID was introduced back in 2017. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the foldable lacks support for Face ID, hence the suggestion that Touch ID would make a return.
As always, whether or not any of this information is true remains to be seen, especially with entirely new products. As such, take this news with a grain of salt.
