OpenAI has just announced that you can now use various apps through ChatGPT. Developers can now integrate their own apps with the popular AI chatbot with the new Apps SDK.
These integrated apps include Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify and Zillow. You can interact with these apps by simply referencing their names in the conversation.

Through this feature, you can ask Spotify to create you a custom playlist for a party or ask Booking.com to find you a place that suits your needs, all from within ChatGPT. Once any of the partnered names have been mentioned, the chatbot will surface the app and use your chat and relevant context to help create the results you’re looking for.
Not only that, ChatGPT can proactively suggest you an app whenever it is relevant to the conversation. However, if it is the first time you are using an app this way, ChatGPT will prompt you to connect your account so that “you know what data may be shared with the app”.

It is worth noting that Spotify did release a statement about this integration. The music streaming service mentioned that this is an opt-in feature and that users can disconnect at any time (though there was no mention of how).
“It’s early days, so while we might not be able to deliver on every request just yet, we’ll continue to build, refine, and improve the experience over the coming weeks and months,” said Spotify in its official news room. Additionally, the company also stressed that Spotify will not share music, podcasts, or any other audio or video content on our platform with OpenAI for training purposes.

ChatGPT shared that the company is looking to integrate more apps later this year. These apps include, but are not limited to, DoorDash, Khan Academy, and Tripadvisor. This feature is available to logged-in ChatGPT users outside of the EU that are subscribed to the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans starting today.
