Maxis has announced that it has accepted a spectrum assignment offer from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) worth RM400 million. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the telco said the offer involves a 2x10MHz block in the 2100MHz band, also known as Band 1.
The payment structure consists of an upfront RM100 million and cumulative annual payments of RM300 million across the entire assignment period, although the company did not disclose the exact duration of the assignment. The 2100MHz frequency band is commonly used to support 4G services, particularly in boosting network capacity in dense urban areas.

For Maxis, securing this spectrum could bring several strategic benefits. This includes strengthening the telco’s ability to manage heavy traffic volumes and deliver a smoother experience to customers during peak usage, ensuring continuity and stability of service for existing 4G users, and refarming for 5G use in the future.
This latest spectrum assignment follows Maxis’ earlier acceptance of a 2x10MHz block in the 2600MHz band in 2022, with total annual fees of RM20.76 million and an upfront payment of RM11.76 million. The 2600MHz band is another key layer for 4G LTE, offering higher capacity and speed.
