Battlefield 6 is less than a week away from launch, but the preorders for the game on Steam have already surpassed the 1.7 million mark. Not only that, but analysts expect EA and Battlefield Studios to sell a further five million copies during the first week of its launch.
The speculation comes from data Ampere Analysis, who also noted that during the open beta sessions, Battlefield 6 brought in more than 22 million players during the playtest, with a peak concurrent player count of 10.4 million at the time. That’s more than double what Battlefield 2042 garnered during its beta.
Battlefield 6 will launch on 10 October for PC, PS5, and the Xbox Series X and S. The title marks the return of a single player campaign, which wasn’t provided in the previous instalment. The game focuses on a war being fought by two sides: NATO and a massive private military organisation (PMO) called Pax Armata.
Battlefield 6 also marks the return of the class system, with the introduction of four classes – Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Not only that, but players will also be able to choose whichever primary weapons they wish to wield, regardless of class. The game also marks the return of fan favourite modes, as well as a new Escalation mode.
News of the preorders is certainly welcome in these turbulent times for the gaming industry. Recently, EA sold itself to the Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF) for US$55 billion (~RM231 billion), while Microsoft raised the price of its Game Pass Ultimate subscription to RM25 per month.
