Volvo launched the single-motor variant of the EC40 crossover SUV, known formerly as C40, to the Malaysian market. With the updated twin-motor EC40 already available, this single-motor variant gives people an option to suit their preferences.
Speaking of which, we are being offered the model with the top-specification ‘Ultra’ trim. This means, in terms of design, it will feature a fixed panoramic roof and 19-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels.
Furthermore, a new Sand Dune exterior colour has been added for the model. It was introduced on the 2025 model year EX90. Other than that, the crossover SUV largely retains the same design cues as the twin-motor variant, including the signature Thor’s Hammer headlights, fastback roofline, and roof spoiler.
The cabin of the EC40 comes with a nine-inch Google built-in infotainment system and a 12.3-inch driver’s display. Additionally, the EV supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with over-the-air updates. The SUV also features Volvo’s next-generation user interface that debuted in the EX30. The cabin is further enhanced with a Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, wireless phone charging, and two-zone electronic climate control.
Performance-wise, as mentioned, it features an in-house developed permanent magnet rear electric motor, making the model a rear-wheel drive EV. It delivers an output of 175 kW and 420Nm of torque, allowing the EC40 to complete the century sprint in 7.3 seconds.
Additionally, the SUV comes with one-pedal drive, where slowing down and speeding up can be done with just the accelerator. The motor is powered by a 70 kWh NCM battery pack that offers a WLTP range of up to 488 km. In terms of charging, with a 200 kW DC charger, the car can replenish itself from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.

Volvo is one of the brands known for its safety, and with the EC40, they have maintained their standards with airbags in the front and at the sides of the car. It also comes with the full Safe Space Technology suite featured in its flagship models, including the latest collision-avoidance technology, advanced driver assistance systems, and a reinforced structure.
The EC40 single-motor variant is priced at RM248,888, making it RM40,000 more affordable than the dual-motor version. The price includes a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty and an eight-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. As an added reward for customers who purchase the new single-motor EC40, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering complimentary first-year car insurance valued at RM5,600, along with a wallbox charger voucher worth RM5,000 for a limited time only.
