Remember Monster Hunter Now? For those who are still actively playing it, the bad news is – or good depending on perspective – is that there is another mobile entry for the franchise. It’s called Monster Hunter Outlanders, and its closed beta will be starting in November.
In case you missed it, Monster Hunter Outlanders is developed by Timi Studio Group. The game was first announced late last year, showing a take of the franchise blended with survival mechanics a la Ark: Survival Evolved, or even Palworld. There’s some degree of base building, though it’s unclear what degree of significance this mechanic has.

From the trailers – including the new one – combat is a lot more involved that Monster Hunter Now. But that’s not exactly saying much as it’s still plenty simplified compared to the mainline titles. You do get two new buddy types exclusive to the game in addition to the Palico. These are the monkey-like Rutaco and a bird-like Trillian.
And of course, no mobile game is complete without egregious monetisation. And we see what may be elements of that in this trailer. Specifically, Raya, the hunter with the Dual Swords looking like Rikku from FFX-2; and Midori, the one with a Long Sword in a shamisen sheath. These scream gacha pull characters, which compounds with mention of an energy system that’s synonymous with mobile games.
