The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and MotoGP have released a statement announcing the suspension of the MotoE electric bike World Championship. This suspension will take place following the 2025 season, which has only two races left.
According to MotoGP, the reason for this decision is that MotoE has failed to gain traction among fans of the sport over the course of seven seasons. It also added that during this period, the electric performance motorcycle market has not developed as expected.

“Today we announce the suspension of the FIM MotoE World Championship as from the end of this season,” said FIM President Jorge Viegas. “In fact, and despite all the best efforts to promote this innovative category together with Dorna, the truth is that we haven’t reached our objectives, nor has the industry associated with performance electric bikes.”
Additionally, it was stated that MotoGP is expected to use 100% non-fossil fuels from 2027 onwards. At the moment, the sport is already using 40% non-fossil fuel for championship races. This, according to MotoGP, is already matching the direction of the industry and serves as a clear statement of its commitment towards Racing for the Future.

However, both MotoGP and the FIM stated that they will continue to monitor the direction of the industry, and MotoE will be reconsidered if the relevance of electric motorcycles rises. MotoE was launched in 2019 and, during that time, featured six four-round races throughout the season.
Fortunately, after gaining some traction, the number of races increased to 16 across eight rounds. However, this year it was reduced to seven rounds. With only two races left and the championship points very close, it seems the sport is going to end with some drama. Thus, if you are a MotoE fan, don’t forget to catch the last two races of the electric bike World Championship.
