Earlier this year, rumours about an upcoming Xiaomi phone with a small secondary display like the Mi 11 Ultra began to emerge. Now, it seems like the brand is indeed bringing back the feature with the Xiaomi 16 lineup, which is expected to make its debut in China sometime soon.
A series of photos circulating on social media show what is allegedly the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max. In these images, the back of the phone is clearly visible, revealing a camera bump that spans across the width of the device. Two vertically aligned cameras occupy the left side of the module, leaving room for what could be the second screen.
Of course, these pictures don’t actually show this supposed screen in action. However, it would be an odd design choice not to include a display given the amount of space available on the camera island. Moreover, Xiaomi’s own software also seems to support the idea that the company is reviving the feature.
That said though, the brand has yet to officially reveal any information on the smartphone series, and that includes this particular detail. Assuming that the secondary screen is returning with the Xiaomi 16 Pro Max, we can probably expect it to function like the Mi 11 Ultra display. That means the screen could work as a viewfinder for selfies, in addition to showing notifications and other alerts.
The Xiaomi 16 Pro Max could launch as early as 24 September with the as of yet unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 SoC. For now, it is uncertain whether it will be making its way out of the company’s local market.
