It’s always scary when you see reports of an email provider sending out security alerts to users. This is especially true when it’s Gmail, one of the most used ones out there. The good news is that for Gmail users, Google has come out to say that it has not issued any security warnings in recent times.
In a blog post, Google says that “Gmail’s protections are strong and effective”. It also says that the “several inaccurate claims” that surfaced recently about the aforementioned security alert are “entirely false”. The company goes on to say that its email provider service blocks over 99.9% of phishing and malware before they even reach inboxes.

According to Android Authority, the prior claims about Google sending out Gmail security alerts may be “a misreading of recent Google security data about phishing trends”. Which may be specifically referring to the company’s threat analysis if the hacker group UNC6240, or ShinyHunters.
The blog post ends with Google asking users to continue following the best practices for online safety. It also took the opportunity to promote password alternatives like Passkeys. Which you should probably take a moment to review even if you think you’ve gotten it down pat.
